Huangshan Mao Feng is a type of green tea that comes from the Huangshan region of the Anhui province in eastern China. The processed leaves are known for their shape and downiness, hence the name ‘Mao Feng”, which means “Fur Peak”.
The legend of Huangshan Mao Feng tea recounts the love story of a young couple. The story states that the woman was abducted by a cruel local ruler who wanted her as his concubine, but she managed to flee. Upon her return, she discovered that her beloved had been slain by the tyrant. The woman grieved bitterly, shedding tears until she became the rain itself. That rain then fell onto the couple’s grave, where a tea tree then sprouted, giving rise to Huangshan Mao Feng tea.
