The Legend of Genmaicha is rooted in ancient times.
As the tale goes, a servant was serving his master green tea when he accidentally dropped some brown rice from his pocket into the cup.
The story goes on to say that the master, who was a fierce warrior, was so enraged by the incident that he ended the servant’s journey, so to speak. Nevertheless, he decided to try the contaminated tea and was surprised to find that the combination of green tea and brown rice created a delightful flavor.
It’s said that in memory of the servant, whose name was Genmai, the warrior named the tea “Genmaicha”.
