The Menghai Tea Factory (勐海茶厂) is the most famous pu’er tea factory in existence.
They are located in Menghai, Yunnan province, China.
Founded in 1940 as the Fo Hai Tea Factory, it was renamed to the Menghai Tea Factory in 1953.
The Menghai Tea Factory, along with the Kunming Tea Factory, were the first producers of shu (ripe) pu’er tea.
This development increased demand for pu’er tea exponentially.
The Manghai Tea Factory was fully privatized in 1996.
They are known primarily for traditional tea bing and are also known as one of the most counterfeited pu’er tea brands on the market.
