The Menghai Tea Factory (勐海茶厂) is the most famous puer tea factory in existance.
They are located in Menghai, Yunnan province, China.
Founded in 1940 as the Fo Hai Tea Factory, it was renamed to the Menghai Tea Factory in 1953.
The Menghai Tea Factory, along with the Kunming Tea Factory, were the first producers of shu (ripe) puer tea. This development increased demand for puer tea exponentially.
The Manghai Tea Factory was fully privatized in 1996.
They are known primarily for traditional tea bing and are also known as one of the most counterfeited puer tea brands on the market.
