Ban Tian Yao (半天腰) is an oolong tea from Wuyi, China.
The name Ban Tian Yao loosely translates to ‘Waist Halfway to the Sky’.
This name was given to it because it was first discovered growing on a narrow passage between cliffs in the Wuyi Mountains.
Traditionally, this tea was roasted over charcoal.
