    Masala chai tea

Masala chai tea originated in the Indian subcontinent and is made by brewing black tea with a mixture of aromatic spices and herbs. The spices used can vary but often include cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and black pepper. The tea is typically brewed strong and is then boiled again after adding milk and sugar.

    Ingredients

    • 1 cup of water
    • 1 cup of milk
    • 2 teaspoons of black tea leaves (or 2 tea bags)
    • 1-2 teaspoons of sugar (or to taste)
    • 1 cinnamon stick
    • 4 cardamom pods, lightly crushed
    • 4 cloves
    • 1-inch piece of fresh ginger root, grated
    • A pinch of ground black pepper

    Instructions

    1. Boil the Spices: In a saucepan, add the water, cinnamon, cardamom, cloves, ginger, and black pepper. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes to allow the spices to infuse into the water.
    2. Add the Tea: Add the tea leaves or tea bags to the spiced water, and continue to boil for another 2-3 minutes.
    3. Add Milk and Sugar: Pour in the milk and add sugar to taste. Return the mixture to near-boil, and then reduce the heat and simmer for another 2-3 minutes.
    4. Strain and Serve: Strain the tea into cups, removing the spices and tea leaves. Serve hot.

    Notes

Note that there are countless variations to this recipe, depending on regional and personal preferences.

Some people might prefer a stronger flavor of one spice over the others, or add additional spices like fennel or star anise. Feel free to experiment to find your perfect blend!
