Echinacea tea is a popular herbal tea made from the leaves, flowers, and roots of the echinacea plant.
The flavor of echinacea tea is often described as full-bodied, with pronounced floral notes and herbaceous undertones of pine and meadowsweet.
Here’s a basic recipe for echinacea tea:
Ingredients
- 1-2 teaspoons dried echinacea root, leaves, or flowers (or 2-3 tablespoons fresh)
- 8 ounces (240 ml) of water
- Optional: honey or lemon for flavor
Instructions
- Prepare the Echinacea: If you are using fresh echinacea, chop or grind the root, leaves, or flowers into small pieces.
- Boil the Water: Bring the water to a boil in a pot or kettle.
- Steep the Echinacea: Either put the echinacea in a tea infuser or place it directly into a pot of hot water. Reduce the heat and allow it to simmer for about 15 minutes. If you want a stronger tea, you can simmer it for up to 30 minutes.
- Strain the Tea: If you didn’t use a tea infuser, strain the tea into a cup to remove the echinacea pieces.
- Add Flavors: If desired, add honey or a slice of lemon to taste.
