Cinnamon is a spice obtained from the inner bark of certain specific trees belonging to the genus Cinnamomum.
Renowned for its warm, sweet flavor and distinctive aroma, cinnamon is a popular ingredient in a variety of culinary dishes, baked goods, and beverages around the world.
There are two main types of cinnamon:
- Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum), also known as “true cinnamon”, is native to Sri Lanka and southern India. It has a lighter color and a delicate, mildly sweet flavor.
- Cassia Cinnamon (Cinnamomum cassia), commonly found in supermarkets, originates from China and Indonesia. It has a darker color with a stronger, more pungent taste compared to Ceylon cinnamon.
