Yellow tea is a rare and refined variety of tea that originates from China.

It is known for its delicate flavor, smooth texture, and unique processing method.

    Processing Method

The distinguishing feature of yellow tea lies in its production process, specifically a step called “sealed yellowing” or menhuang in Chinese. After the initial pan-frying or steaming (similar to green tea processing), the tea leaves are wrapped or heaped and allowed to undergo a slow oxidation process.

    Characteristics

    • Flavor Profile: Yellow tea typically offers a mild, sweet flavor with subtle fruity or floral undertones. It lacks much of the astringency found in some green teas, making it smooth and easy to drink.
    • Appearance: The tea leaves have a yellowish hue due to the unique processing method. When brewed, the tea yields a pale yellow to golden infusion.
    • Aroma: It has a gentle, fresh aroma that complements its delicate taste.
