Matcha, a type of powdered green tea, is renowned for its high antioxidant content and potential health benefits.

However, when it comes to acid reflux (gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD), the effects of matcha can vary from person to person.

    Potential Concerns

    • Caffeine Content: Matcha contains caffeine, which can relax the lower esophageal sphincter (LES). A relaxed LES may allow stomach acid to flow back into the esophagus, potentially worsening acid reflux symptoms.
    • Acidity Levels: While green tea is generally less acidic than black tea or coffee, it can still stimulate stomach acid production in some individuals, possibly leading to discomfort.
