Longjing tea, which is also known as Dragon Well tea, is a type of pan-roasted green tea from the Zhejiang Province and is one of the most popular teas in China.

The tea leaves are flat, slender, and have a bright green color.

In terms of flavor, Longjing Tea offers a delicate aroma, distinct vegetal notes such as asparagus, bok choy or cucumber, with hints of chestnut and a slight astringency.

Taking that into account, let’s take a look at some of the best Longjing Tea brands of the year.

    Table of Contents

    • Verdant Tea, Shifeng Semi-Wild Dragonwell Tea
    • Seven Cups, Shifeng Longjing Tea
    • Yunnan Sourcing, Imperial Dragon Well Tea
    • Silk Road Teas, Organic Dragon Well Green Tea

Verdant Tea, Shifeng Semi-Wild Dragonwell Tea

At the top of our list for the best Longjing Teas of the year is Verdant Tea’s 2023 Shifeng Semi-Wild Dragonwell Tea.

Shi Feng, which translates to “Lion’s Peak,” is a part of the West Lake region in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, and is one of the most revered regions for Longjing (Dragonwell) tea production. As this tea comes from a semi-wild grove of tea plants, it offers an authentic view into the natural terroir of Shifeng.

We think this tea is of superior quality, and is definitely one we would recommend.

In terms of flavor, this tea has a a bold flavor, with a relatively strong sense of minerality alongside classic Longjing notes.

    Seven Cups, Shifeng Longjing Tea

Seven Cups is a reputable tea company known for sourcing traditional, artisanal Chinese teas.

The tea plants used to produce this tea are of the original Longjing cultivar and we think this tea is a good representation of what Shifeng Longjing Tea should be.

In terms of flavor, this tea has a delicate vegetal flavor, with notes of toasted soybean, a crisp chestnut note, a buttery mouthfeel, and a sweet aftertaste.

Yunnan Sourcing, Imperial Dragon Well Tea

This Imperial Dragon Well Tea from Yunan Sourcing is one of their higher-end Longjing offerings, and it’s certainly a pleasure to drink.

In terms of flavor, this tea is sweet, nutty, and refreshing, with a slight astringency.

Perhaps worth mentioning is that this tea can have a lot of that “tea fuzz” on it, but can actually be a sign of a quality product.

Silk Road Teas, Organic Dragon Well Green Tea

If you’re not keen on loose-leaf tea, this Organic Dragon Well Green Tea by Silk Road Teas is packaged in tea bags for convenience and ease of use.

In terms of flavor, this tea has a predominantly chestnut-like aroma, with a crisp, yet somewhat mild vegetal flavor. While the flavor may not be as complex as some of the other teas on this list, we would still consider this to be a very decent dragon well tea.
